We’re no magicians, but this cake might be our best trick yet. This sheet cake uses Dr Pepper soda in both the cake and creamy frosting. We recommend making this for your next party and listening to everyone ask what that secret flavor is.

2cupsall-purpose flour
2cupsgranulated sugar
1 1/2tsp.baking soda
1/2tsp.salt
1/2tsp.ground cinnamon
1cupbutter, cut up
1/3cupunsweetened cocoa powder
1cup Dr Pepper carbonated beverage
2eggs
1/2cupbuttermilk
2tsp.vanilla
1cup toasted pecans, chopped (optional)
Frosting
1/3cupbutter, cut up
1/4cupunsweetened cocoa powder
1/4cup Dr. Pepper carbonated beverage
2 1/2cupspowdered sugar
1tsp.vanilla
Directions
Preheat oven to 350°F. Coat a 15x10x1-inch baking pan with nonstick spray. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon.
In a medium saucepan combine butter, cocoa powder, and Dr Pepper. Bring mixture just to boiling, stirring constantly. Remove from heat. Add cocoa mixture to flour mixture. Beat with an electric mixer on medium to high until combined. Add eggs, buttermilk, and vanilla; beat 1 minute (batter will be thin). Pour batter into prepared pan.
Bake 25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Meanwhile for frosting, in a medium saucepan, combine butter, cocoa powder, and Dr Pepper. Bring to boiling. Remove from heat. Add mixture to a medium bowl. Add powdered sugar and vanilla. Beat with an electric mixer until smooth.
Pour warm frosting over warm cake, spreading evenly. If desired, sprinkle with pecans. Cool in pan on a wire rack, about 1 hour.
